Schlafzimmer ausmisten | Decluttering The Bedroom

Schlafzimmer ausmisten

Decluttering the bedroom

The bedroom should be a place of peace and relaxation. It‘s the last and the first thing you see every day. However, this peace and relaxation feeling is not what you get from every bedroom. Time to change that. Today, I‘ll talk you through five areas of your bedroom that might need decluttering.

1. Cloth

No matter if it‘s clothes, towels or sheets; get the decluttering started. Anything with stains or holes needs to go. Do you need all of your clothes (you‘ll find blog posts to declutter your closet here, here and here)? How many towels and sheets do you really need and use? „But all of that is still in good condition“. Then go ahead and give it to people who actually need and will use it.

2. Dust catchers

I love decor. However, I do not have a lot of decor. A contradiction? No, since all of the decor I have really has enough room to shine and I‘m totally fine to take care of those pieces. And that should apply to decor in your bedroom as well. When there is too much, not only your mind can never relax, you also have to dust it all; mind you, in a room that potentially has a lot of cloth causing dust. So, get rid of dust catchers. Surfaces may even be completely bare or just have a single item on them.

3. Household appliances

Only very few people want to be reminded of household chores before falling asleep or right after waking up. So, try to store household appliances anywhere but in the bedroom. If that is not possible, try hiding them in a closet, under the bed or behind a curtain. Sure, all those household tasks still need to be done but you don‘t have to be remined all the time.

4. Projects in progress

Just like household appliances, unfinished projects remind you of work that still needs to be done. If possible store them somewhere else or hide them. Often, a simple box is enough to provide your eyes and mind with more peace in the bedroom. You can even have a box specifically designated for unfinished projects. Side benefits: You cannot have 28 projects going on simultaneously and nothing can get lost since everything is in that box.

5. Paper clutter

Ever since I dove into organizing I recognize one reoccurring theme many people have: paper clutter. Almost no one likes handling it (see how I handle it here). Some even have huge problems with it and feel emotionally burdened by it. Why on earth would you put that kind of burden in your bedroom? In case your desk is in your bedroom, try creating a hidden document action tray, so you don‘t forget about the documents you still need to tackle.

You see it‘s not always about getting rid of stuff. In this particular case it is often about finding new (less obvious) homes for things, so that the bedroom can actually be a bedroom instead of an office or a cubby. Start creating the bedroom that des deserves this name today
