Einfach mehr Stauraum schaffen Teil II | Making More Storage Space Part II

1 Nutze Boxen

3. Nutze maximalen Platz in unsichtbaren Bereichen

Unsichtbare Bereiche? Bist du `ne Hexe oder was?

So.

Making Storage Space Part II

Before we begin, let me remind you: Always. Declutter. First. Never make room for things you don‘t need or like. But when you want to make (more) storage space I have some tips for you (find part I here):

1. Use boxes

Boxes are magical in making space! You can use see though ones (in closed cabinets) and immediately see what‘s inside. You can use opaque ones and label them. You can chose them within your home‘s color plate or as an accent color. They look good. And you can store a lot in them. By stacking them you can use vertical space. Pst: Even when you are a little messy, boxes help to contain the mess.

2. Use shelf height

I will never understand why closets have shelves. Why? Anyways, in order to use them properly make use of their entire height. You can achieve that by stacking boxes. There are also (metal)baskets you can hang right underneath the shelf and create another level. Maybe you can get yourself some drawers. No matter what, use that shelf height.

3. Use room in invisible spaces

Invisible spaces? Are you a witch or what?! What I‘m talking about are cubbies, basements or other rooms where you hardly ever are for a longer period of time. Most people crave tidy spaces for the rooms they live in, this is not necessary for rooms that they don‘t live in. Use that: shelves up to the ceiling and on all available walls. Use space over, behind and on the door. You can even have little shelves on wheels (or use those boards with wheels underneath that you usually use to move furniture or put heavy plants on) so you can easily move them out of the cubby. Really cram those spaces. Wait a second! Not with useless stuff! Only with stuff you want, your stockpile, your saisonal items etc. that you don‘t need and want to see permanently in your living space.

4. Unter the bed/ sofa

Some beds and sofas already come with storage space underneath. If yours don‘t you can easily create that storage space yourself. Use flat long drawers with a lid on wheels. You can also use flat boxes. If you don‘t like to look at them push them far under the bed. Maybe using pretty boxes does the trick. Perhaps you even like bedskirts. In any way, don‘t waste that precious space and use it for things you don‘t need all the time. We don‘t want to keep on bending down all the time, right?!

5. Behind the bed/ sofa

Oh yes. There‘s not just storage space under a bed or sofa. You can store quite some stuff behind them. Behind my sofa is another mattress for guests. A long time ago there was a leaf for a table behind my headboard. Those things are pretty much invisible where they‘re stored even though they‘re quite big. Maybe you have some extra shelves, pictures in frames, extra pillows, blankets or a folding table there. All of those things will fit perfectly behind a bed or sofa.

So? Are you already looking for potential storage in your home? Me too… even though I don‘t need any. And just to be sure I‘ll repeat once more, even though you‘re probably sick of it by now: Always. Declutter. First. Never make room for things that don‘t belong in your life. So, now go ahead and tranform your home with all these storage space ideas.
